1-2-3 Smoothies and Breast Cancer Awareness

Greetings! Breast cancer awareness is always important, so please browse through the helpful infographic below. The group that is spreading the word are here :) Besides sharing their info here, the help I have to offer is FLAXSEED!

There is substantial evidence that ground flaxseed because of it's bountiful lignans is very helpful in cancer prevention, slowing, and improving survival rates! It's also beneficial to men, related to prostate cancer. So here you go!

You know how I love my videos, so here's one for you! In it, you can see potentially a 20-40% reduced risk of breast cancer with regular flaxseed intake :)

Three delicious combos that you can prepare in seconds! Blend either combination of ingredients and drink immediately!

Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie Yum!
1 ripe banana
small handful peanuts (plain, or roasted)
3/4 c unsweetened almond milk or water (vanilla Silk is great!)
handful of ice
1 Tbsp ground flaxseed (I get a huge bag of organic from Costco!)

Chocolate-Covered Cherry Smoothie Yum!
handful frozen cherries (~3/4c but I just shake some in from the bag)
1 cup almond milk or water
1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa
1 Tbsp ground flaxseed

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie Yum!
1 or 2 pitted dates
1 tsp pumpkin spice (try my homemade version)
1 cup almond milk or water
handful of ice
1 Tbsp ground flaxseed
These are more like a creamy juice or milk than a smoothie; these drinks are not thick. They're tasty, quick, and most importantly, provide us with a powerful dose of those commanding lignans!

For more: A Dr Maize article (doctoroz.com), A Dr Greger article (links to great videos within article), and more ways to eat flaxseed from me (eggplant parm, banana bread, oatmeal, muffin tops, and more!).

BONUS TIP: Flaxseed oil is void of the majority of the lignans and all of the fiber that flaxseed offers, so stick with the dry, ground version :)

Chocolate Covered Strawberries Smoothie

A super-delicious smoothie that takes seconds to make! It is basically Happy Herbivore's Neapolitan Smoothie. She has an awesome website and services to offer with VERY simple recipes and menus that anyone can make! Please check her/it out! I can't wait to try so many of her recipes!!!

My version has more chocolate and less banana, comparatively, but I give all creativity credits to Lindsay Nixon of Happy Herbivore (this is an egg-less "egg salad" recipe I am anxious to try!)

Chocolate Covered Strawberries Smoothie

1 c unsweetened, vanilla almond milk
2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa
2 ripe bananas
2 c frozen strawberries

Fill blender in above order, blend (in my Blendtec this takes about 10 seconds!), and enjoy!

This makes about 30 ounces of smoothie to be served immediately!

We divided the batch into three 10-oz smoothies, and made more for the family twice today!

Lots to share, so hopefully I'll post again soon! Be well :)

Fruit Fun!

Thank you Costco for this great idea!  Peeling tangerines is pretty easy.
Still, when I tried a sample of tangerines cut up this way, it was really easy to eat.
Sometimes if I am peeling for my kids I can't keep up with the demand!
With just two quick cuts, you're ready to go!

No orange colored nails after this quick, yummy snack!

Here is a quick trick for removing strawberry stems.
Simply poke a hard straw straight through a strawberry from the narrow bottom all the way up and out pops the stem!  Works like a charm!

No more half strawberries going to waste because kids don't want to eat near the stem!

BONUS: you can actually eat the stems, and you'll get some extra leafy greens!

What improves that perfect combination of banana and peanut butter!
A stick!  Everything is better on a stick!

Our sticks were drink stirrers.

One more thing a friend shared that I HAD to include here!
How terrific are these darling fruit and veggie trays?!?!

This is beautiful Sesame Street food art is from a darling family blog!  Thank you Bethany!
Plus, check out many, many other beautiful trays on Pinterest!

COMMENTS: Is it a busy time of year for you?  I find the anticipation of summer exciting, but whew, I feel like things are moving fast!  Plus, do you ever eat food on a stick?  If so, what is your favorite?

3-Ingredient Fruit Salsa!

FRUIT -- the world's natural sweetness!

Another reason it's great: FIBERY goodness!!

This weekend my friend, Jenny, introduced me to this delicious FRUIT SALSA! She tried it first with sweetener, but decided (even being the sugar-lover that she is) that it's great even without the added sweetener!

Tupperware Fruit Salsa

1 Apple
3 Kiwi
8 Strawberries

Simply chop everything up and enjoy!  I used my mini food chopper, or you could use your
Tupperware Chopper if you have one! Great on toast, your favorite chips or crackers, or these:

Food Should Taste Good Multigrain Tortilla Chips

These most simply have 3 grams of fiber per serving, making them a better choice than usual tortilla chips. They still should be considered a treat, but when you're having this special treat, you'll be getting some fiber and other nutrients too! These are made with a variety of nutritious ingredients, including flaxseed (unfortunately the seeds are whole making their omega-3 fats unabsorbable), quinoa and brown rice (healthy gluten-free grain alternatives), oats, sunflower and sesame seeds! Check out the Nutrition Facts and Ingredients.

It looks like Food Should Taste Good have tons of AWESOME products! I want to try them ALL!! Here is the website! I've also tried the yummy Sweet Potato Chips!

COMING SOON: more fruit yummies!

COMMENTS: Where have you found this brand of chips and snacks?  I got these at Costco, and the Sweet Potato Chips at Heinen's.
